• Malibu Middle School breaks ground on next phase of campus plan — The Malibu Times (malibutimes.com) — Malibu Middle and Malibu High are getting a major upgrade as the district breaks ground on a new middle school hub and gym funded by Measure MM. Expect construction between the two active campuses while new labs, a wellness center, and future aquatics complex are built to better serve Malibu students and families.
   

• High tide, waves crash against Long Beach boardwalk from Hurricanes Odalys, Polo (ocregister.com) — Malibu officials are warning residents about dangerous high surf, rip currents, and possible coastal flooding as swells from Hurricanes Odalys and Polo peak through Wednesday. South-facing Malibu beaches could see tides above 6 feet with 4- to 7-foot waves, prompting coastal flood and high surf advisories through Tuesday. Beachfront property owners are urged to inspect drainage, shore up erosion defenses, and stay clear of jetties and flooded areas.
   

• 'Bomb-like' marine marker among unusual items that El Niño has washed onto California's shores (latimes.com subscription) — Recent El Niño–driven swells are reshaping Southern California beaches and even bringing a hammerhead shark to the waters around Malibu Pier. Ventura County bomb technicians have also handled washed-up military ordnance, while warmer seas are drawing rare sea turtles to nest farther north. Malibu beachgoers should be alert for unusual marine life and avoid touching any suspicious objects in the sand or surf.
