• Work To Begin On Malibu Portion Of 38-Mile Fiber Network (patch.com) — Malibu residents will soon see construction as work begins in October on the city's segment of a 38-mile regional fiber network, adding about 8,000 feet of underground infrastructure. The project will connect Malibu City Hall and traffic signals along Civic Center Way and Malibu Canyon Road, aiming to boost public safety, traffic management, and future smart-city technologies across the region.
   

• Hidden dangers prompt warning at popular California beach (latination.com) — Malibu officials are warning visitors about dangerous erosion, exposed pilings, and debris at Point Dume State Beach, where the access road to the main parking lot is temporarily closed. Residents are urged to heed warning signs, talk with local lifeguards before entering the water, avoid unstable cliffs, and prepare for a stormy El Niño winter that could further stress Malibu's coastline and infrastructure.
   

• Why California Just Declared a State of Emergency Due to El Niño (time.com) — Malibu is already seeing significant coastal erosion from this year's El Niño and Pacific hurricanes, and residents are being warned to prepare for more severe winter storms, flooding, and landslides. Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide emergency to mobilize resources, speed up infrastructure protections, and urge Californians to sign up for alerts, understand their flood risk, and have evacuation plans and emergency kits ready.
