TDelaneyArt
Tom Delaney is a local artist in the South Bay community. He started painting at the age of ten and continued his passion throughout middle school and high school earning him a scholarship to college. In his junior year, he took a marketing course and began his journey to the “dark side” going on to receive his MBA and spending the next 25+ years as a marketing executive for world-class companies, such as Disney and Mattel.
A few years ago, Tom was told he needed a kidney transplant in order to live. The transplant was successful, but he could no longer physically cope with the rigorous travel, long hours and demanding schedule of the corporate world. Upon his wife’s urging, Tom returned to his first passion – art. Today, Tom is an advocate for the artist, lives in the South Bay with his wife, three sons and two black labs, Lightning and Bolt.

South Bay Artist Collective
The South Bay Artist Collective’s mission as a 501(c)3 non-profit is to support and grow the local visual arts community by creating a destination for art and creativity, while teaching and inspiring youth. We want to help connect the artists, audience, students, and venues in the South Bay and help contribute to a thriving art community. We are developing programs to provide after-school art and photography classes to youth.

The Story of Metlox
Metlox Pottery was founded in 1927 by T.C. Prouty and his son Willis, originally as a producer of outdoor ceramic signs. After the death of T.C. in 1931, Willis renamed the company Metlox Pottery and began producing dinnerware. Besides kitchenware, Metlox also produced a very popular line of large ceramic horses and carriages in the 1950’s that are still very collectible. They also designed vases, figurines and miniatures. The line became well known for its brightly colored glazes derived from locally mined metallic oxides.

In 1987, Metlox declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In May, 1989, the factory closed its doors after 62 years of operation. On June 21, 1989, the Los Angeles Times reported lead and other dangerous metals (as bi-products of mining) had been dumped in a 60 by 40 foot open pit and it would take at least two years to be cleaned up.

In 2005, 16 years later, Metlox Plaza was opened. Today, it includes restaurants, retail shops, a day spa and the boutique Shade hotel.

Metlox Plaza is located at the gateway to Downtown Manhattan Beach, California. Its European-style town square showcases upscale shopping and dining intertwined with landscaped courtyards, fountains, a fire sculpture and public art celebrating the history of the Metlox Pottery manufacturing facility that occupied the site since 1927.
