Law Enforcement Prepares to Crack Down on Boating Under the Influence
"Operation Dry Water" will take place in June.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Marina del Rey station is preparing for this year's annual "Operation Dry Water."
The yearly event, which is part of Boating Under the Influence, or BUI, aims to help raise awareness of the perils of operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol.
"We have boating accidents as a result of alcohol, and it becomes an issue," said Lieutenant Reginald Gautt, operations lieutenant for the Marina del Rey Sheriff's station.

This year marks the third that the department will participate in the program, he said. As part of the weekend, there will be signage up and police monitoring of lakes and ocean waterways, he said. While there are generally few arrests, only around two last year, Gautt said it is important for everyone to keep safety in mind at all times.
"Operation Dry Water" will be in effect from Friday, June 22, through Sunday, June 24.
