Police: Man Crashes Lakers' Jordan Hill's Bentley Into Condo Complex

Officers follow a trail of blood from the car to the pro basketball player's residence, but he denies being at the wheel, the CHP says.

A man was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs Saturday morning after he crashed a Bentley convertible registered to Los Angeles Lakers forward Jordan Hill into a condominium complex in Marina del Rey, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Hill was not driving the luxury car at the time of the crash, which was reported just before 2 a.m. at 13900 Marquesas Way, off Via Marina, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

The arrested man was identified as Michael Lacey, 26, Posada said. His city of residence was not immediately available.

Both Lacey and a female passenger in the Bentley suffered minor injuries but were not taken to a hospital, Posada said.

The Bentley ended up in a patio area with its air bags deployed, a photographer at the scene said.

Blood was visible on the vehicle's passenger side air bag, he said.

Hill lives in the building that was struck, a CHP officer told the photographer.

Officers followed a trail of blood from the car to an elevator and from the elevator to Hill's residence and questioned Hill about the crash, but he denied being at the wheel, the officer said.

The car ruptured a gas line that was shut down by firefighters, a county fire captain told the photographer.

A utility crew was summoned to deal with the gas line, county fire department dispatcher Michael Pittman said. It was unclear whether gas service was interrupted to residents or businesses in the area.

The crash is under investigation by the CHP, but it appeared to have been caused by Lacey's alleged intoxication combined with excess speed that caused him to mishandle a curve and jump a curb before striking the building, Posada said.
