📰 News we're reading

• Citizens' group urges council to fight Russian skyscraper project (padailypost.com) — Menlo Park residents are mobilizing against a massive skyscraper proposal at the former Sunset Magazine site on Willow Road, urging City Council to resist state pressure and a developer-imposed deadline. The project would add hundreds of apartments, a hotel, offices, and a preschool, while two other large nearby developments could dramatically reshape the area between Middlefield and Laurel.

• Bay Area tech layoffs already top last year as more job cuts surface (fresnobee.com) — Menlo Park-based Meta Platforms has announced plans to cut 3,715 Bay Area jobs, the largest single tech layoff total in the region so far this year. Overall, Bay Area tech companies have already disclosed nearly 13,000 job cuts for 2026, surpassing all of 2025, with PayPal, Amazon, Cisco, Oracle, LinkedIn and others also trimming staff and reshaping operations.
