On Tour from Finland, Performing in Menlo Park
Folk-Pop duo Vellamo to perform free concert March 20 at Menlo Park Main Library
The Menlo Park Library is hosting a free performance by the folk pop duo Vellamo, on tour from their home country of Finland.
The event will take place at noon on Sunday, March 20 at the Main Library at 800 Alma Street. The event is being billed as an entertaining musical performance, as well as an introduction to the Finnish language and folk music tradition, which combines Scandinavian and Slavic influences with Finnish folklore.
In Finnish mythology, Vellamo is the goddess of the sea. In the world of music, Vellamo is the performing & songwriting team of Pia Leinonen and Joni Tiala. Their music is characterized by haunting melodies, ethereal vocals, and virtuosic guitar styling. They write instantly-memorable songs in English as well as in their native Finnish, and they also perform traditional ballads from the Finnish, Celtic and Scandinavian folk traditions. The duo’s Menlo Park Library performance is part of a ten-week U.S. tour, their fifth trip to share music in the states.
