City Of Millbrae Defers Water Rate Increases To 2021
Revenue collected from City water services pays for wholesale water from the SFPUC.

Due to the spread of COVID-19 and California’s shelter-in-place orders, many Millbrae residents and business owners have seen their monthly incomes drop dramatically and are having trouble making ends meet.

While the City has suspended shutting off water accounts for non-payment and has been working with its customers to set up payment plans, more relief was needed.
To help offset some of the burdens of COVID-19, the Millbrae City Council voted unanimously this month to defer the July 1, 2020, water rate increase until January 1, 2021.

This deferment is one of many actions the City and local service providers have taken to help provide temporary relief to those impacted by the shelter-in-place order.
In 2017, the City approved small annual rate increases to prevent a large one-time increase imposed by the San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC).
Revenue collected from City water services pays for wholesale water from the SFPUC, and has allowed the City to replace its water storage tanks and street lines, most of which are between 60 and 70 years old.
