📰 News we're reading

• Little Bit of This, Lots of That (northbaybiz.com) — A long-debated plan to redevelop the former Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary site in Strawberry, right next to Mill Valley, has been approved for 337 homes plus a large senior-care center, preschool and fitness facility. The 100-acre property has faced years of community scrutiny, and this decision likely marks Southern Marin's last major redevelopment, with big implications for traffic, housing and neighborhood character around Mill Valley.

• Bay Area pizza mogul, Novato chef team up to write cookbook (marinij.com) — Detroit-style pizza chain Square Pie Guys plans to open a Mill Valley location in early 2027, converting a former Local Kitchens space as part of its Bay Area expansion. Founder Marc Schechter explains how home experiments, pop-ups, and delivery-focused operations grew into multiple restaurants and an upcoming cookbook that teaches readers to make pan pizzas in their own kitchens.

• Mill Valley bans nicotine sales with no exemptions (marinij.com) — Mill Valley has unanimously approved a sweeping ban on all retail nicotine and vaping product sales, effective February 1, 2027, replacing the city's tobacco retail licensing program. The move, aligned with Corte Madera's similar ordinance, is framed as a youth health and environmental protection measure and makes Mill Valley one of the strictest jurisdictions in the country on nicotine sales.
