Environmental Report On Muir Woods Rehab Project Now Available

The National Park Service plans to rehabilitate water and wastewater lines in Muir Woods National Monument.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Work is done to ensure the National Park Service complies with environmental laws before it rehabilitates water and wastewater lines in Muir Woods National Monument, park service officials said.

A final Environmental Assessment, Finding of No Significant Impact and Determination of No Impairment are complete and available at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?parkID=303&projectID=64419&documentID=80754.

The final EA takes into account many comments on the draft EA and complies with the National Environmental Policy Act and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

Park service officials said the project titled the Muir Woods Water and Wastewater Service Lines Rehabilitation Project will make park facilities such as restrooms and the concessions building safe and reliable.

Park service officials noted that water and wastewater lines have been showing signs of deterioration and corrosion.

Construction is expected to begin next summer and could be completed in the fall of 2018.

The work will meet modern codes for fire protection and potable water quality and storage.

Park service officials said the work will also better protect the park's natural resources by relocating infrastructure outside of the Redwood Creek corridor.
