Home Intruder Claiming To Be Undercover Cop Arrested: Mill Valley Police

Robert Thresh​ of Sonoma County was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools and impersonating a police officer.

MILL VALLEY, CA – A home intruder claiming to be an undercover cop was arrested Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched around 5:15 a.m. to a house in the 400 block of Lovell Avenue in Mill Valley, where the residents awoke to an intruder inside of their home, according to the Mill Valley Police Department. The suspect, later identified as Robert Thresh, 56, of Sonoma County, allegedly told the residents he was "undercover" and advised them to call 911.

The suspect then fled the home, with the male resident running after him, Mill Valley police Sgt. Steve Heisinger said.

Minutes later, the suspect allegedly attempted to contact a neighboring resident at the front door of the home, while carrying a flashlight and claiming he was the "police," Heisinger said. It was reported the suspect was also carrying a knife.

Mill Valley police, with assistance from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the Sausalito Police Department, searched for the suspect.

Police found and detained Thresh shortly before 6 a.m. in Mill Valley, Heisinger said. He was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools, impersonating a police officer, resisting an officer and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
