Man Crashes Into Ravine Near Marin Headlands, Airlifted to Safety

The extent of his injuries was not immediately available: BREAKING

MARIN COUNTY, CA – A man was airlifted to safety Thursday afternoon after crashing his vehicle some 80 to 100 feet down a Marin roadway, officials report.

According to a National Park Service spokesman, the man was the only person in the vehicle when it veered off Conzelman Road, near Field Road, on the way to the Marin Headlands around 11:30 a.m. The man drove off the road on the valley side of Conzelman Road and ended up in a ravine.

"He was alert and the California Highway Patrol transported him by helicopter for medical attention," NPS Spokesman Nathan Hale Sargent told Patch by telephone.

It's not clear what happened that caused the man to crash, he said. The extent of his injuries was not immediately available.

Sargent tells Patch that the wreckage was cleared and the roadway was reopened by 2 p.m.
