Mill Valley Man Arrested For DUI, Hit-and-Runs

California Highway Patrol officers arrested one man near Point Reyes Sunday morning for driving under the influence after he left the scenes of several consecutive collisions, CHP said.

Scott Lindner, 22, of Mill Valley was booked at 9:11 a.m. Sunday with felony charges of driving under the influence and driving under the influence with blood-alcohol content higher than .08 percent, according to a CHP report.

The highway patrol received the initial call about the incident at 2:48 a.m., by which time Lindner was blocking one lane of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, according to the report.

He had also already struck myriad objects and allegedly assaulted his passenger, an unidentified 20-year-old Mill Valley woman who was seated beside Lindner throughout almost the entire ordeal, CHP said.

The incident began when the pair was leaving the Olema Campground off of state Highway 1 in Marin County. They were apparently having an argument, the CHP report said, and before they left the campground Lindner crashed his 2010 Honda Accord into a parked truck.

This collision caused him to lose control of the vehicle and hit a metal pole that was part of a propane tank enclosure, CHP said. The impact also caused the female passenger to be thrown from the vehicle temporarily. She experienced minor injuries from that ejection.

When she was back in the car, Lindner proceeded down southbound Highway 1 to eastbound Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, CHP said. As the pair drove about eight miles down that street, Lindner allegedly continued to assault his female passenger, causing additional injuries.

It was on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard that Lindner struck a curb, once again losing control of the Accord, CHP said. When the vehicle came to rest, Lindner was partially blocking the eastbound traffic lane, and highway patrol officers were called, CHP said.

Both Lindner and his passenger were taken to a local hospital by responding officers - she for treatment for the injuries she sustained, and he to have his blood tested because officers suspected Lindner was under the influence - CHP said. The woman sustained multiple lacerations to her face and back, CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said on Monday.

Because the Marin County Sheriff's Office is now handling the investigation into Lindner's alleged assault on the woman, Caggiano did not know how severe her lacerations were or if she was still in the hospital on Monday.

Lindner was booked into Marin County Jail Sunday for his felony traffic charges. Responding officers learned he was on parole with the California Department of Corrections, and he was subsequently placed on a parole hold, CHP said.
