Mill Valley Man Reports Car Theft, Gets Arrested for Bank Heist

A warrant had recently been issued regarding a Corte Madera robbery.

MILL VALLEY, CA -- A local man who went to police Dec. 6 to report his car being stolen wound up being arrested for an Election Day bank robbery that happened in Corte Madera, Central Marin Police say.

The case originated around 5:20 pm on Nov. 8 when a man entered the Bank of America branch at 663 Tamalpais Dr. in Corte Madera and approached a teller. He produced a note demanding money and threatening violence with a weapon. No weapon was seen and he left the bank with cash. The suspect was observed getting into a cab and leaving the area.

The investigation and evidence collected at the scene resulted in the identification of the suspect. A probable cause arrest warrant was issued the afternoon of Dec. 6 for Colin Michael Kane, age 29, of Mill Valley.

Hours later, around 9 p.m. on Dec. 6, Kane went to the Sausalito Police Department to report the theft of his car. Officers were aware of the warrant, and Kane was taken into custody without incident.

He was booked at Marin County Jail for armed robbery and bail was set at $50,000.
