4. Rohnert Park Names New Public Safety Director (patch.com) — Mill Valley's current police chief, longtime Marin lawman Rick Navarro, has been tapped to lead Rohnert Park's Department of Public Safety, drawing on his experience running major evacuations and regional emergencies. He'll leave Mill Valley this fall to oversee a combined police-fire agency of more than 100 staff, after decades with the Marin County Sheriff's Office and deep community involvement in Cotati-area youth sports.
   

5. Girls tennis: Freshmen help serve up Redwood win over Tam (marinij.com) — Tam High's girls tennis team dropped a tight 4-3 MCAL opener to Redwood, but the bigger local twist is that all of Tam's matches are being played away while its Mill Valley courts undergo renovation. Freshmen-powered Redwood swept doubles, while Tam's top singles players shined, and the Hawks now prepare for Terra Linda entirely on the road.
