Suspected Bay Area Camera Thief Arrested

Officials found evidence linking the 19-year-old to a theft at Mike's Camera in Mill Valley, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Police have arrested a man suspected of stealing multiple high-end cameras around the San Francisco Bay Area, including Marin County.

Brett Blanton, 19, was arrested around 6 a.m. Tuesday and booked into Marin County Jail on burglary and grand theft charges.

Detectives from the Marin County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the San Jose Police Department, served a search warrant at Blanton's San Jose home after a community member identified him in the surveillance video authorities released.

"It was a tip to Santa Rosa PD's Sonoma County Alliance to 'Take Back our Community' reward program that gave law enforcement the lead it needed to break this case," according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives found evidence linking Blanton to the Nov. 7 theft at Mike's Camera in Mill Valley, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office. He is also a suspect in camera thefts from the areas served by Santa Rosa Police Department, Campbell Police Department, Menlo Park Police Department, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, San Jose Police Department and Pleasant Hill Police Department.
