Alcohol Not Factor In Fatal Accident Today on Hwy 101, CHP Says

Lanes near Story Road still affected.

California Highway Patrol officers said a driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol in a collision with a pedestrian who died on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose early this morning.

Two lanes of the freeway remain closed at the on-ramp near Story Road this morning due to the incident. The collision occurred around 3:30 a.m. north of Interstate Highway 280, and the CHP issued a Sig-alert at 4:51 a.m. as crews worked to clear the scene.

There is no estimated time of when the roadway will reopen.

A Honda Civic was heading south on the highway at about 60 mph when it struck a pedestrian trying to cross the freeway, according to the CHP. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office was called to the scene, CHP officials said.

The driver of the Honda was not injured, and a passenger suffered minor injuries, officers said. The pedestrian has not been identified, according to the CHP.
