ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: Ronnie Reed, MHS Varsity Pitcher
The freshman pitcher excelled at the varsity level for the Trojans in 2011.
Career Highlight: “Our first official league game was a night game against Santa Clara,” Reed said. “I threw a three-hitter. I was nervous early but felt really comfortable after that and pitched great.”
Go-to Pitch: “It really depends on the batter and how the hitter positions himself,” Reed said. “If it’s a wide stance, I’ll probably throw a curve ball on the outside corner in the dirt. If not, I’ll go with a fastball that’s high and inside.”
College Plans: “I really just started thinking about it, but right now LSU and UCLA would be my top two choices,” Reed said. “Both have school football and baseball programs.”

Favorite TV Show: “Anything on ESPN, Sportscenter is always on at my house,” Reed said.

Teammate(s) You’ll Never Forget: “Mario Garay, Anthony Paz and Matt Menezes.” Reed said. “Anytime I needed some encouragement, they would be the guys that would come pick me up. I’ve played with them for a long time. I don’t know what I’m going to do without them.”
Something People Don’t Know About You: “I use my anger as an advantage,” Reed said. “When I get mad, my curve ball gets more bite and my pitches have a little more movement. I use it for a good cause.”
The final two questions of the interview were directed to Milpitas High baseball coach Chuy Zamudio.
Best Skill: “First and foremost he is an athlete that takes his play serious,” Zamudio said. “That’s really pivotal and is what we are striving for at the next level. We are just blessed to have a player like that for three more years.”
Lasting Memory: “He’s 6-2 as a freshman and pitched four solid innings against Mitty, a National ranked team,” Zamudio said.” That says a lot about what type of athlete he really is.”
