In Photos: Milpitas PAL Soccer Awards Banquet

After wrapping up a successful season, the Milpitas Police Activities League Soccer had its annual banquet Feb. 12 to extend its appreciation to coaches and assistants for providing recreational sports to more than 500 Milpitas youths and their families. 

Mayor Jose Esteves presented a commendation to the board of directors for service to the city, and council members Debbie Giordano and Armando Gomez also spoke to the participants.

Denny Weisgerber, former mayor and current chairman of the Veterans Commission, attended with his wife, Marianne. They had much to celebrate, including their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Coach Sha Mokhtarzad was awarded Coach of the Year for the first , to honor individuals who display dedication of time, fair play and sportsmanship. Anderson was a popular PAL soccer coach and referee who died unexpectedly in October 2010.

The Referee of the Year award will be presented at a later date.
