Man Killed on Sidewalk Was Milpitas Resident

MILPITAS, CA — A man fatally struck by a car exiting Interstate Highway 880 in Milpitas on Sunday morning has been identified as 27-year-old Jose Cruz Guzman, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.
Guzman, a Milpitas resident, was on a sidewalk along West Calaveras Boulevard near the transition road from northbound Highway 880 around 9:45 a.m., police Lt. Kevin Moscuzza said.
He was hit by a blue 2013 Subaru Impreza leaving the highway, Moscuzza said.

The driver also struck a utility box before it traveled across all lanes of traffic and came to a stop in an embankment. The driver and a passenger didn't report any injuries in the collision, according to Moscuzza.
Arriving emergency crews pronounced Guzman dead at the scene, Moscuzza said.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Drugs or alcohol don't appear to be a factor in the collision. Anyone with information on the collision is asked to call Milpitas police at (408) 586-2400.
