Milpitas Man Arrested For Alleged Porch Package Theft

A 34-year-old man who allegedly stole a package from a home's front porch in Milpitas was arrested after he was uncooperative at a car stop.

MILPITAS - A 34-year-old man who allegedly stole a package from a home's front porch in Milpitas was arrested after he was uncooperative during a car stop late last month, police said.

Franco Gonzales, a Milpitas resident, was arrested on suspicion of petty theft, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine and being under the influence of a controlled substance, police Sgt. Dave Morris said.

On May 27, officers responded to a report of a person stealing a package in the 2300 block of Lacey Drive around 6:45 p.m., Morris said. A witness described to officers the suspect and a vehicle that fled the scene, which led them to Gonzales, according to Morris.

One of the officers conducted a traffic stop on the 34-year-old man, who became combative and resisted arrest, Morris said.

A second officer who reached the scene helped place Gonzales into custody, according to Morris.

Officers found the stolen package and methamphetamine in the vehicle, Morris said.

Gonzales allegedly exhibited behavior that indicated he was under the influence of a controlled substance, according to Morris.
