Northbound I-680 In Milpitas Shut Down By Suicidal Man
The evening commute was a nightmare as Milpitas Police and the CHP rerouted drivers.
MILPITAS, CA — The Monday evening commute through the I-680 corridor in Milpitas was a taillight nightmare for thousands of drivers forced onto city streets by a suicidal man. He climbed onto an overpass fence and threatened to jump.
The CHP responded by shutting down all northbound lanes, forcing vehicles to exit at Montague Expressway. Meanwhile, Milpitas Police negotiated with the man.
The standoff began at 4:30 p.m. and dragged on for five hours. Police sent a message at 9:40 p.m. reporting that all lanes had reopened.
