• Newby Island landfill in Milpitas ordered to reduce foul odors, pollution after years of complaints (cbsnews.com) — Milpitas residents fed up with rotten egg-like odors from the Newby Island Landfill may finally see relief, as Bay Area air regulators have ordered the facility to upgrade gas controls and add real-time air monitoring. The landfill has two years to comply with new measures, including drones and fenceline sensors, and could face fines if it fails to reduce emissions affecting nearby neighborhoods.
   

• 35-year-old woman dies after hit-and-run at South Bay apartment complex (sfchronicle.com) — A 35-year-old woman was killed Friday in a hit-and-run at the Mill Creek Apartments on Dixon Landing Road in Milpitas, where officers found her fatally injured in the parking lot. Police later located a damaged blue SUV nearby and arrested a 32-year-old Milpitas resident, while investigators continue working to determine what led up to the collision.
   

• Milpitas man among those missing after catastrophic floods in Nepal-Tibet border (nbcbayarea.com) — A Milpitas resident, 48-year-old Prabhath Sajeepa, is among more than 1,000 people missing after devastating floods and mudslides along the Nepal-Tibet border. His family and the Bay Area's Nepali community are anxiously awaiting news, organizing a candlelight vigil in Richmond while rescuers continue searching through debris for survivors.
