Small Brush Fires On I-680 May Have Been Arson

MILPITAS, CA — A pair of small brush fires that broke out on both sides of I-680 in Milpitas on Thursday may have been the work of an arsonist, according to fire investigators.

The fires were between Calaveras Boulevard and Montague Expressway.

The fires were reported around 1:30 p.m. Traffic backed up for miles as crews fought the smoky blazes.

There were a few nearby evacuations, although no structures burned. There were no injuries.

The total area burned is about 3 acres.
