SOFTBALL: Milpitas Falls in Extra Innings to Christopher

The Turning Point: Christopher had a runner on third base with two outs and the score tied at one in the top of the second inning. That’s when Mariah Martinez dribbled a ball to the pitcher’s mound. The ball got away and the errand throw to first allowed a run to score. Christopher went on to score another run in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The two-run outburst forced the host Trojans to play catch-up for the rest of the game.

What's Next? The Trojans will travel to play Evergreen Valley High School on Thursday, March 10^th.  

Stars of the Game:

 Christopher pitcher Aly Olvera, who allowed one run over five innings before surrendering the lead in the sixth inning.

Christopher third baseman Mariza Rodriquez, who turned an unassisted double-play in the seventh inning to all but end the Milpitas rally and preserve the one-run victory on the road.

Christopher’s Kayla Medrando, who singled in Arianna Vasquez in the bottom of the sixth to put the Cougars up 4-3. They would eventually go on to win by that score.

Tiana Teixeira and Kelsie Wilson each recorded RBIs for Milpitas in the win.

Bottom Line: Milpitas hitters tried bunting twice late in the game with two outs and runners in scoring position. The bunts were snatched up, allowing the visitors to escape with a tightly-contested road victory. Milpitas falls to 2-4 overall. The Trojans have earned wins over Woodside and Harbor High so far this season.
