South Bay Woman, 70, Dies In Multi-Car, Suspected DUI Crash

A 34-year-old from Los Gatos was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

BELMONT, CA – California Highway Patrol officials said a man was arrested in connection with a DUI collision Saturday night in San Mateo County that killed a 70-year-old woman from Los Gatos.

The CHP received a call at 8:44 p.m. that multiple vehicles collided on eastbound state Highway 92 just west of Interstate Highway 280 near Belmont.

According to CHP officials, a 2009, 2-door Mercedes was being driven west on Highway 92 while a 2003 Honda CR-V, 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix and 2003 Volvo SUV were being driven east on Highway 92.

The Mercedes crossed over the double yellow lines into eastbound traffic where it collided with the left sides of the Honda and Pontiac and head on with the Volvo.

CHP officials said the driver of the Mercedes, 34-year-old Los Gatos man Arsen Tarkovskiy, was allegedly intoxicated as he was driving.

After the collisions, Tarkovskiy was pinned in the driver's seat and had to extricated by first responders.

Tarkovskiy suffered major injuries and was taken to Stanford Hospital after being treated by paramedics at the collision site.

CHP officials said the passenger in the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Volvo was taken to Stanford Hospital with minor injuries.

The occupants of the Honda and the Pontiac were unhurt.

CHP officials said Tarkovskiy was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
