Suspect Arraigned For Alleged Snatching Of Little Boy From Milpitas Library
The 23 year old could face 11 years behind bars.

A 23-year-old man was arraigned today in the alleged abduction of a 3-year-old boy in Milpitas last week, a Santa Clara County deputy district attorney said.
Alfonso David Edington was arraigned today on one felony count of kidnapping in Santa Clara County Superior Court in San Jose, Deputy District Attorney Brandon Cabrera said. Edington appeared in court today before Judge Deborah Ryan and did not enter a plea, according to Cabrera.

Ryan set his bail at the scheduled $100,000 despite Cabrera’s request to keep him on $200,000 bail, the amount he had been booked on last week, based on the charge and victim’s age. Edington faces a potential sentence of 11 years in state prison, Cabrera said.

Last Friday, officers received a report of an alleged abduction at 10:40 a.m. at the Milpitas Library at 160 N. Main St., Milpitas police Chief Steve Pangelinan said. The boy’s mother reported her child missing to library employees, who in turn notified police, Pangelinan said.
A witness reported seeing the boy leave with a man later identified as Edington, according to the chief. Police notified area agencies of the alleged abduction, Pangelinan said.

A bus driver reported seeing the pair board a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus at the Great Mall around 11 a.m., according to Pangelinan.
Fremont police arrested Edington when he exited the bus with the boy at the Fremont BART station, Pangelinan said.
Fremont police were able to confirm the boy was the missing child after sending a photo of him to the Milpitas police command post, according to Pangelinan. Investigators from the Milpitas and Fremont police departments have interviewed more than 100 people on the case and are continuing to speak with more witnesses, Cabrera said.
Edington is scheduled to return to court for a plea hearing on June 15.
