Investigators are seeking witnesses.

MILPITAS, CA - A woman died when she drove a minivan off the road and went down an embankment in Milpitas just west of Interstate Highway 880 on Saturday afternoon, police said today.

Officers responded to a report of a crash on North McCarthy Boulevard south of Dixon Landing Road at about 4 p.m., police Lt. Henry Kwong said. Responding officers found the woman in a gold 2007 Nissan Quest and emergency crews pronounced her dead at the scene, Kwong said.

A preliminary investigation showed the driver was on northbound North McCarthy Boulevard, went off the road and crashed into a curb and streetlight, Kwong said. The van then traveled down a slight embankment before it came to a stop, according to Kwong.
