City Offers Free Library Services To Homebound Residents

Mission Viejo residents who are unable to leave their homes will have a new way to access the thousands of books at the city's library.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Homebound Mission Viejo residents will now have access to the thousands of titles at the Mission Viejo Library, after the city announced it would be offering a "Homebound Books-by-Mail Service" to the community Monday.

The free service is for Mission Viejo residents who are unable to physically visit the library due to temporary or long-term mobility issues, health or disability barriers.

According to the city, a Homebound library card entitles residents to:

  • Three-item checkout limit.
  • Three-item hold limit.
  • Four-week checkout period with no renewals.
  • Free postage to and from the Mission Viejo Library.

Residents who participate in the program will receive their selections by USPS mail, the city said. Shipping instructions and return packaging will be found inside of the package.

Mission Viejo residents must reapply to the program after one year, the city said. Residents looking to take advantage of the program can apply for the free service online.
