College-Bound Students Urged To Attend Anti-Hazing Workshop

MISSION VIEJO, CA — The City of Mission Viejo is hosting an anti-hazing event on Wednesday, May 17, and students are urged to save the date and participate in the one-time workshop.
The workshop will explore the dangers and consequences of hazing with high school students and their families who are preparing for college, the city said in a statement.
According to the city, hazing is any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses or endangers the person regardless of the person's willingness to participate.

Participants will hear from panelists, which include parents who have lost children to hazing incidents. The workshop will be led by Daniel Catullo and Dr. Buzz Mingin, the city said.

The Anti-Hazing Workshop is sponsored by the City of Mission Viejo in partnership with Saddleback Valley Unified and Capistrano Unified School Districts.
The workshop takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932. The event is free and appropriate for all ages.
