Dog With Challenging Life In Need Of Forever Home In Mission Viejo
Sophie, the 4-year-old German shepherd, was surrendered by her previous owners after they could no longer afford to take care of her.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — One sweet German shepherd is looking for a new forever home, after her previous owner suffered financial hardship and could no longer afford to take care of her.
When Sophie, a 4-year-old German shepherd, originally came into the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter, she was severely underweight and in need of nourishment and care.
"Through dedicated attention and a consistent regimen, she has made wonderful progress, gaining nearly 20 pounds and blossoming into a healthy and content companion," the city said in a statement.

"However, Sophie's exuberant happiness sometimes leads to what veterinarians refer to as "happy-tail" syndrome, where her enthusiastic tail wagging results in injuries and can lead to infection and nerve damage."
To alleviate the discomfort caused by the syndrome, the city said it was recommended that Sophie's tail be amputated.

According to the city, Sophie's ideal home would be one where she could receive undivided attention as the sole pet.
