Fatal Crash In Mission Viejo: Pedestrian Dies
An SUV driver collided with a 64-year-old pedestrian early Sunday on this Mission Viejo street.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A pedestrian was struck and killed as he attempted to cross Marguerite at Alerzal, Sunday evening, in Mission Viejo.
At just after 7:30 a.m., an SUV driving at the intersection of Marguerite and Alerzal struck the man as he attempted to cross Marguerite, Mission Viejo Police Services reported.
The Orange County coroner's office later identified the 64-year-old pedestrian as Marty Mannani of San Juan Capistrano was pronounced deceased at that location shortly after the collision, according to the coroner's office.

There is no crosswalk at that location where he attempted to cross, and as of this report, it is not known if foggy conditions contributed to the incident. According to Mission Viejo police services, the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with officials during the investigation.

Alcohol or drugs was not suspected as a cause for the collision, they said.
The crash was being investigated by the Orange County Sheriff's Department's Major Accident Reconstruction Team, according to Mission Viejo Police Services Lt. Quyen Vuong, who added the department's condolences to "the family and friends of the pedestrian."
