MISSION VIEJO, CA — A 10-month-old pup just got a new lease on life, after Roscoe the dog was rescued from an overcrowded Riverside County Shelter just a day before he was scheduled to be euthanized.

Now, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is looking for the perfect family to adopt the friendly border collie mix.

"Roscoe is one of our 'Mission for a Home' dogs that was rescued on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized," Public Information Specialist Kelly Tokarski told Patch. "MVAS staff saw his photo in an email asking for help and responded back right away to pick Roscoe up."

Roscoe was rescued thanks to funding from the animal shelter's nonprofit DAWG, which allows animal services staff to transfer pets from high-kill shelters to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center.

"Roscoe would thrive in an active house where there is always something happening — but he also needs to learn some basic manners," Tokarski said. In order to help Roscoe acclimate to a loving home, his adoption will come with a free training package funded by DAWG.
