MISSION VIEJO, CA — When Jake Sully, a 7-year-old German Shepherd, was turned into the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center as a stray in April he was showing signs of severe neglect.

According to MVAS officials, the pup was severely overweight when he was turned in — his toenails were so overgrown that they were turning outward to the sides of his feet, and his teeth were worn down as if he had been chewing on a crate or cage.

Today, Jake Sully has made a complete transformation. He is a volunteer favorite who gets lots of walks, play time and love. He also has a clean bill of health.

"Jake Sully would make a wonderful addition to almost any home because he is laid back and easy-going but still spunky and playful," an MVAS news release said. "Senior dogs traditionally take a long time to get adopted, but we hope Jake Sully does not have to wait much longer."

Residents can stop by the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center at 28095 Hillcrest to meet Jake Sully.
