Patch Blog: Monrovia PD on Twitter

Monrovia PD has set up a Twitter account. What information would you like to see them tweet?

Yup, Jim Hunt followed through with the promise to look into setting up a Twitter account and the place holder at least went live Friday.  I am for one a little jazzed to see them starting, even it its only a place holder.

Twitter, if you don't know about it, is a social media tool that is being used by a lot of Law Enforcement and Fire Departments in the L.A. area to keep citizens aware of what is going on, hazards to avoid and general crime/fire prevention.  The messages are short, 140 key strokes or less but can pack in a lot of info in those constraints.  Those messages are simply called "tweets".

You can easily set up your own free account to follow the once they start tweeting.  You can follow them @MonroviaPolice.

I for one am not so certain what all I'd like to see tweeted by Monrovia PD.  Maybe asking us for information, witnesses to unusual activity in a neighborhood.  It would be nice to have them send alerts when there are scammers working neighborhoods under the pretense of being "an MHS Fundraiser".  Alerts to accidents giving specific streets so we know to avoid and minimize our delays due to blocked intersections and traffic.

I'd love to meet up with Jim Hunt and the officer (?) in charge of the Twitter account and learn more about the direction they want to take with it.

What would you like to see @MonroviaPolice tweet about.  How often would you like to see them tweet daily or weekly?
