Attempted Robbery at Shell Station Ends in Arrest

Jose Hernandez, 25, was arrested early Wed. morning on suspicion of attempted robbery in La Crescenta.

The following information was provided by the Crescenta Valley Sheriff Station.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on Wed., a 46-year-old male La Crescenta resident was filling up his gas tank at the at 3044 Foothill Blvd. when he was approached by a man holding an empty beer can. The man demanded the customer's credit card.

According to the police report, the customer realized he was being robbed and refused to hand over his credit card. Instead, he started walking toward another person at the gas station "for safety."

But the man started following the customer, and demanded that he drop his wallet to the ground. The customer refused and instead took off running across Foothill Blvd., leaving his car behind at the Shell station. He took out his cell phone and dialed 911, reporting that he saw the man running south down Cloud Avenue.

Deputies from the responded immediately, and were able to locate a suspect standing in a driveway in the 3000 block of Community Ave. Police say there was a lone, empty beer can nearby.

The customer identified the suspect as 25-year-old Jose Hernandez of Los Angeles. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The victim did not sustain any injuries during this incident.
