Comments of the Week: Chamlian's Gym, Harvest Market and Drayman

What will Chamlian Armenian School's gym do for the students and the neighborhood, is the Harvest Market a neighborhood must and more about the Drayman investigation.

At Patch, we believe that news is a conversation.

Here are some of the things that readers have been saying over the past week (some comments and letters have been edited for grammar and length):

We should be proud that the Lowell school still serves a valuable purpose in providing a high quality education to hundreds of kids. It's only decent to provide them with a physical education program as well… The presence of such a sought after school in the neighborhood only adds to property values for area residents.

Thank you Montrose Patch for having the facts....neighbors surrounding this school have been impacted negatively due to the many variances issued the school in the past. This will most certainly just add more problems to the existing ones.

Rules have to be bended for schools, airports, hospitals, etc. Why would the same rules be bended for public schools, but not a private school? …What difference would have made to the neighbors if, let's assume, the public school wanted to build a gym at the same location?

I am extremely disappointed in the City Council's vote and that they did not support the Planning Commission's decision on this project... This school has already been granted a lot of variances and they are probably going to get one more for less parking. We as a community feel we are not being listened to when we discuss concerns about land use in the CV and this proves it. The gym is too large and WILL affect the neighborhood for years to come.

Can not wait to get back up to the mountains! Newcomb's Ranch, here we come - chill the beer!

I am so there (Newcomb's, that is)! And I'm going to celebrate with one of their awesome Bloody Mary's.

I recently bought a Martin travel guitar from Grayson's Tune Town. I bought the guitar at Grayson's, rather than online - where I could have gotten free shipping, and paid no CA sales tax - because I believe in supporting our local businesses. Money spent locally has a multiplier effect, since that business in turn will buy goods and services from other local businesses. We would not have even have known of the existence of Grayson's, had we not been regular patrons of the Montrose Shopping Park, drawn there every Sunday for the Harvest Market.

We've tried to shop at the market but the produce is insanely more expensive there than at the supermarkets. The only great thing about the market is the flower stand with their awesome flowers for great prices. If I go I park at the corner head over to the flower location and leave right after.

We received several comments questioning why a quote from Barry Allen was used in this story.

Patch responded:  “Please note that we place Mr. Allen's allegations in context: No one else is saying that the embezzlement is linked to Montrose Shopping Park, and we note that. Still, it's an intriguing allegation. We'd love to hear from someone who has specific knowledge about that allegation and whether or not it's true or just the figment of Mr. Allen's imagination.”

And, as we continued to follow the story, someone did come forward. The  said that they were the ones who alleged that Drayman was embezzling money. Be the first to comment on this story: and see if your opinion ends up in next week's round up.
