Final Vote on 'For Sale' Parking Ordinance Delayed

After passing a preliminary version of an ordinance last week that would ban long-term parking of cars with "for sale" signs in Altadena and other unincorporated areas, the County Board of Supervisors delayed a required final vote on Tuesday.

The County Board of Supervisors delayed a final vote on a parking ordinance Tuesday that targets cars left out with "for sale" signs on certain streets in unincorporated Los Angeles County.

The preliminary version of the ordinance was passed unanimously last week, but Supervisor Don Knabe asked to have the final vote delayed for three weeks.

The ordinance is specifically geared towards car owners who "park vehicles for the purpose of advertising or displaying such vehicles for sale" on public streets, and would apply only to certain streets in county unincorporated areas

Cheryl Burnett, a spokeswoman for Knabe, said the supervisor asked for it to be delayed to take a more in-depth look at whether the list of streets needs to be expanded and also to look at how the ordinance will be enforced.

She said the language in the ordinance should be clear that the ordinance is meant to target car dealers using public space to sell their cars, not private residents who chose to do so.

The ordinance would make it illegal to park “for sale” vehicles on the following streets:

  • Foothill Boulevard between Pennsylvania Avenue and the city of La Cañada Flintridge
  • The west side of La Crescenta Avenue between Foothill Boulevard and the city of Glendale
  • The east side of La Crescenta Avenue between Foothill and Mayfield Avenue.
  • The north side of Montrose Avenue between Raymond Avenue and Rosemont Avenue.
  • Both sides of Montrose Avenue between Rosemont Avenue and the city of Glendale.
  • Ocean View Boulevard between the cities of La Cañada Flintridge and Glendale.
  • East side of Pennsylvania Avenue between Foothill and the city of Glendale.

If the ban is put into effect, parking officers would be authorized to impound any vehicles on those streets that are there solely for the purpose of advertising, or that have received a impoundment warning within the last 30 days.
