Here are Montrose Patch's five suggestions for how to conquer, or avoid, the heatwave this weekend.

The National Weather Service has continued its heat watch through Saturday night and Montrose Patch has five ways to keep you cool when the .

Tonight the low will be around 74 degrees and by Saturday the high will be near 97 degrees with lows around 70 degrees, according to the NWS. Sunday will have a high near 99 degrees and by night the temperature will drop to around 67 degrees.

The agency encourages residents who planned outdoor activities to consider the severe swelter. In addition, children, elderly or pets should not be left inside enclosed vehicles - not even for a short time - because temperatures can rise to life-threatening levels.

Since energy uses spikes with hot weather, the Department of Water and Power is asking that a few simple measures be taken, such as turning off lights when not in use, avoid cooking during the hottest time of the day and ventilate your home at night.
