Guidelines for Neighborhood Development up for Discussion
Officials have created a block-by-block plan for building new homes and businesses in Montrose and La Crescenta.
Preserving the rural-suburban culture of Montrose and La Crescenta has been on the minds of residents and city planning officials alike. A North Glendale Community Plan has been created as a block-by-block guide to neighborhood and commercial development in Montrose and La Crescenta.
Officials will meet with residents Wed. night from 6-8 p.m. at the Sparr Heights Community Center, 1613 Glencoe Way, to discuss details of the plan, which is attached to the right.
All are welcome to attend, and Patch will be there to report on the meeting.

Here are selected of the goals of the plan, which is still in draft mode:
- Re-establish Verdugo City’s identity. Create a “Village Center” at the corner of Honolulu Avenue and La Crescenta Avenue and link it to the Montrose Shopping Park.
- Preserve the Montrose Shopping Park’s village atmosphere, maintain it for residents while promoting it as a regional destination.
- Develop and enhance Foothill Boulevard to make it more visually pleasing, pedestrian friendly and useful to residents as well as making it a regional destination. Maintain the eclectic feel of the street, and encourage the development of more open space like small greens and squares.
- Maintain single family land use in the Crescenta Highlands, Markridge and Highway Highlands areas.
- Maintain the character of the Glenwood Oaks, Mountain Oaks, Whiting Woods and Oakmont Oaks neighborhoods.
