La Canada Congregational Church Choir Concert

The Chancel Choir of the La Cañada Congregational Church will present its
annual Christmas concert “Joys of Christmas” on December7.

The concert featuring the music of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols
and Kirke Mechem’s 7 Joys of Christmas will begin at 4pm in the Church sanctuary, 1200
Foothill Boulevard, La Canada.

The concert soloists are soprano Mariana Ramirez, mezzo-soprano Christina
Thomas, tenor Marco Rodriguez, and baritone Anthony Lee. The concert will also feature
harpist Allison Allport and organist Joseph Klice.

The Chancel Choir is under the direction of Dr, Harold Daugherty, director of
music at La Canada Congregational Church.

“Benjamin Britten composed Ceremony of Carols in 1942 aboard a ship in 1942 as
Britten returned to his home in England after a stay in the USA,” Dr. Daugherty said.
“Kirke Mechem’s 7 Joys of Christmas- was written for the chamber singers of San
Francisco College for Women, in 1964.”

The concert is free. An offering will be received to support
the choir concerts. The Chancel Choir presents two concerts every year: one in May in
addition to the annual Christmas concert.
