The Los Angeles Writers Reading Series

The next presentation in the Los
Angeles Writers Reading Series at Glendale Community College will feature
acclaimed poet and creative writing professor Amy Gerstler reading from her
work on May 20 from 12:20 to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Center conference room.  A question and answer session will follow the
presentation.  The event is free and open
to the public.  Seating is limited and
early arrival is advised.

            Recipient of the National Book
Critics Circle Award in poetry for her book “Bitter Angel,” Amy Gerstler is the author of twelve other books.
Her book “Dearest Creature” (Penguin
2009) was named a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of the Year. Her
previous books include “Ghost Girl,” “Medicine”
and “Crown of Weeds,” which won a
California Book Award. Her work has appeared in a variety of magazines and
anthologies, including The New Yorker,
Paris Review
and American Poetry
Review.
She currently teaches in the Writing Program at the University of
California at Irvine. A new book of poetry entitled “Scattered at Sea” is forthcoming from Penguin in June 2015.

The biannual Los Angeles Writers Reading
Series is coordinated by GCC English instructor Claire Phillips to celebrate
local writers and to give students access to literary events where they can
meet and talk with some of the authors of the books they have been reading in
their English classes.

The college is located at 1500 N.
Verdugo Rd.  Directions to the college
and a campus map can be found at www.glendale.edu/maps.
