Missed last night’s town council meeting? Here are some highlights:
Redistricting La Crescenta and Montrose:
The state of California will begin redistricting this year, which means the political district boundaries will be redrawn. The Council would like Montrose and La Crescenta to be united within one State Senate, Assembly and Congressional district. The council would also like to be united with neighboring La Cañada-Flintridge and Glendale. A letter will be submitted to the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, which is leading the redistricting project.

La Crescenta Post Office:
The council decided to draft and submit a letter to the U.S. Postal Service opposing the closing of the .

Crosswalk at Glenwood Ave. and Foothill Blvd.
The council said that the crosswalk at Glenwood Ave. and Foothill Blvd. is unsafe, with cars not stopping for pedestrians. The council drafted two petitions (one for minors under 18, and one for adults over 18) to make this intersection a lighted crosswalk.
3115 Foothill Blvd:
A new restaurant business has requested a parking deviation in the parking lot of the shopping center at 3115 Foothill Blvd. 14 spaces would be added to the existing lot. The council decided to discuss this matter at the next Planning and Land Use meeting on June 9 and 6:00 p.m.
The council also heard several announcements from community organizations, including:
The post-prom party Prom Plus will take place at the after the prom on May 28, 2011. It begins at 11:30 p.m. and goes until 5:00 a.m. the following day.
There will be two Memorial Day Ceremonies to honor military vets. One at the in the Montrose Shopping Park at 7:45 a.m. and one at the Memorial at 8:00 a.m.
The La Crescenta off-ramp cleanup will take place Saturday June 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
L.A. County Fire Department will hold C.E.R.T. classes at on Saturdays in June. They will be June 11th, 18th and 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Fourth of July fireworks will take place at on Monday July 4th. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. and close at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per ticket, with kids under two free.
The next Speaker Event will be on Wednesday July 28 in the La Crescenta Library from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The topic is safety and protecting seniors from fraud, misuse of medications, loan scams and recent crime activity.
The Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition will be holding a meeting is on June 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce. All are welcome to attend.
Scholarships were also presented to graduating seniors.
The next Planning and Land Use meeting will take place Thursday June 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library.
The next Town Council meeting will be held on June 9 at 7:00 p.m., the second Thursday of June. The date was changed to accommodate graduation.
