Travel Host Seeks Adventure

It was a hot Sunday in downtown Montrose and locals were gathered at the Harvest Market picking up their weekly fruits and vegetables–except Allison. She had a much bigger plan.

Montrose is full of , , business owners, , lawyers, and . But this may be the first travel show producer I met on the boulevard. I met Allison Wottawa outside of in Montrose. She moved here from New York to take the travel industry by storm by bridging time periods with the present. Now, we can all experience the past with the click of a button. And this local gal is willing to travel far and wide just for a little stability.

Do you live around here?

Yes. I live in Glendale.

What brings you to Montrose?

I like coming to Montrose because it's a step away from the craziness. There are only so many times you can go to the . I like to feel that I am getting out of that world a little bit. Montrose has a small town feel and I like the . I go to the , write in my journal and get my thoughts out of the way for the week.

Is that what you were doing when I walked up?

Yes.

Where are you from?

New York.

How long have you been here?

Seven years.

What do you do?

I am a producer for a travel show. It's a travel web series called AllyQuest. It’s a show that not only takes you to a different destination, but a different time period.

That’s really cool!

Thanks. I’m also the host. I try to combine Huell Howser and Samantha Brown.

Any episodes yet?

Our recent episode was on Catalina Island. They are 3 to 5 minute episodes per location. We see things today that are representative of a certain time period and show people how they can experience that time period.

What was in Catalina?

We did the 1920s because William Wrigley Jr. bought the island in 1919. He basically created his island paradise. The first thing he did was build a home for he and his wife, which is now a bed and breakfast. That was built in 1921 and kept in 1920s decor and now people can stay there in his actual home.

Did you stay there?

We did for the night.

You are brave. I would be thinking about ghosts the whole time. This William guy had the whole island to himself?

Yes, he bought the island.

He should have just kept it for him and his so he wouldn't have to share. But that’s just me. Are you looking to get the show on television?

Yes. We are in the process. We are putting a media kit together and taking meetings. We are looking at International opportunities. We also shot LA in the 1940s in downtown. Next, we are looking to go to the Yucatan. We want to cover the Mayan Temples.

That is such a great idea! Where did the concept come from?

I created it myself, but I have teamed up with a co-producer who has been a huge help on the business end of things. I tend to do more of the writing and creative end. I come from a theater background. I went to Drama Studio London and I studied Political Communications, Theater and History.

You are basically combining all of your skills! Do you ever want to get married?

Absolutely. I am still looking for the butterflies!

What are the top three qualities you look for in a man?

That's hard because it changes. I always re-evaluate after getting out of a relationship because things kind of shift.

More people should do that.

I want someone who is considerate and who makes me even though it sounds cliché. I have always been more of a risk taker and an , which has always been important to me. But right now, I am looking for someone who is more stable. More stable than I am, I think. Which is something that is new because I have never really looked for that before.

Do you usually date ?

Yes.

That could be the problem.

Exactly.
