Verdugo Hills Golf Course May Have Time On Its Side
The Verdugo Hills Golf Course could reverse a large housing plan by becoming a historical monument. The site is the former Tuna Canyon Detention Center and was used as a detention center for Japanese Americans in the early 1940s.
L.A. City Councilman Richard Alarcon made a motion to save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course from residential development by adding it to Los Angeles' list of historic and cultural monuments, The Glendale News-Press reported.
Residents in Tujunga and Crescenta Valley are working to save the golf course for recreational use and oppose the residential project they believe would bring more vehicle traffic, according to The News-Press.
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Verdugo Hills Golf Course at 6433 La Tuna Canyon Road, Tujunga, was used as a detention center for Japanese Americans in the early 1940s.

Snowball West Investments owns the golf course and plans to continue the residential development, but is willing to work with historic preservation supporters, company spokesman Michael Hoberman told The News-Press.
