Wind Advisory Issued for Montrose-La Crescenta, San Gabriel Mountains

The high winds will create an elevated wildfire danger and potentially disrupting traffic in wind-prone areas.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Gusty winds will buffet the San Gabriel Mountains and parts of the Antelope Valley Monday, creating an elevated danger of wildfire and potentially disrupting traffic, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Northwest-to-north winds will blow through the Interstate 5 corridor in the mountains and the Western Antelope Valley, gusting to between 35 and 50 miles per hour, with the strongest winds occurring in the late afternoon and evening through Tuesday night, according to an NWS statement. Gusty winds will also strike parts of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, it said.

While humidity levels will not be low enough to warrant a red flag warning, which denotes a threat of wildfire, "the wind-prone areas will see elevated fire danger with potential rapid fire spread due to the extremely dry fuels," it said.

The statement also urged motorists to use caution and be prepared for gusty crosswinds, "which can be especially hazardous for high-profile vehicles." Interstate 5 and the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway will be especially vulnerable, according to the NWS.

A wind advisory will be in effect until noon in the San Gabriels.
