Happy 100th Birthday, Moorpark Library!

The library celebrates a century of service tomorrow with a day full of sentiments and surprises.

Can you believe our library will be 100 years old tomorrow?

Come and help celebrate this milestone starting with an all-day open house from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Raffles, activities and special surprises also abound all-day long.

"The highlight of the day would probably be the special drawing of the Girl Scout quilt between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.," said Heather Cousin, city librarian.

In March, the library partnered with a Moorpark Girl Scout troop to create the quilt as a fundraising venture, said Cousin.

"The Girl Scouts are also celebrating their 100th birthday this year, like us," she said.

Library patrons can go on a self-guided tour throughout the library and take a trip down memory lane as photos from day one of the library's existence will also be on display.

"We do have photos from 1912 of the library's original location at 239 Charles St., which is now a private residence," said Cousin.

If you're the library's 100th visitor that day, a special 100th birthday prize package awaits you.

Coincidentally, the teen summer reading program will also culminate on the library's 100th birthday, with a pizza party and a raffle at noon.

Teen librarian Gina Hernandez is expected to announce the winner of the book cover design contest too.

Some birthdays are usually celebrated for days or an entire month. The library is no exception.

The month of August is crammed with exciting events including pajama storytime on Thursday nights, the monthly adult book club this Sunday, August 5 and comic book crafts with teens on Monday, August 13.
