Local Businesses Set Fundraisers to Help Austin

Restaurants pledge to donate a percentage of proceeds to the Moorpark boy, who is battling brain cancer.

Austin MuƱoz is kind of a big deal around here.

Patch readers first met the Moorpark teen in , when his mixed malignant brain cell tumors seemed to be well on their way to going away, thanks to a combination of therapies (He's also been featured in the Ventura County Star, the Acorn, the Daily News and ABC television).

But now the Moorpark High School football player's tumors are back and he and his mom, Julie Miller, have been spending a lot of time at Children's Hospital Los Angeles battling them as he faces an upcoming stem cell transplant, according to his Facebook page, Austin's Astroids, which is kept up by the two.

To help cover medical costs and other expenses incurred by the pair, the community has rallied to raise money through Austin's Fund, which has been set up through the Talbert Family Foundation. Now, local businesses have set up a series of fundraisers to help out. Restaurants will donate 15 percent of their sales on certain days to Austin's Fund. You can help out by patronizing the businesses on those days. Here's the schedule, according to the Austin's Asteroids page:
