Miller Y's Healthy Kids Week Aims to Help Kids Stay Active and Keep Learning

The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is holding its first Healthy Kids Week, April 20 through April 26.

The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is holding its first Healthy Kids Week, April 20 through April 26. The week will be filled with free activities including dance, karate, a family hike, swimming and a jumping jack challenge.

“Kids from across the community can come to the Y, receive a Healthy Kids Week passport and collect stamps each day as they attend different programs and events,” says Jessie Bringelson, Miller Y youth programs director. “All activities are designed to encourage kids to stay healthy and active, both physically and mentally.”

The week is part of the national YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families. It’s celebrated at nearly 1,300 Ys across the country. “The goal is to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up healthy and safe habits during summer—a time when kids may not get the regular exercise they need or eat right,” says Bringelson. “We know that it can sometimes feel like a challenge. That’s why we’ll not only encourage kids to stay physically and intellectually active all summer long, we’ll give families exercise and healthy eating tips they can easily replicate at home.”
