Moorpark Girl Nears Halfway Mark in Recycling Efforts
Avery Sax has a goal to recycle 100,000 bottles and cans by Earth Day.

Moorpark's 11-year-old Avery Sax has set a goal to recycle, with the community's help, 100,000 bottles and cans by Earth Day, April 22. She's well on her way with 45,000 recycled in her name so far, but she needs help.
Just more than a year ago, the Flory Academy fifth grader was diagnosed with a blood vessel mass in her brain that leaves her with an uncertain prognosis that now fuels her passion to make a difference in the world.
"I don't know if I will be here tomorrow, but others will be here, and the world will still be here. I think we should work together to keep the Earth a clean, healthy and happy place, not just for us but for future generations," she told the Ventura County Star in an interview last month.
